Lead and Copper Rule

Updated March 13, 2024

In December 2020, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized the first major update to the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR)  in nearly 30 years. EPA’s new rule strengthens every aspect of the LCRR to better protect children and communities from the risks of lead exposure and provide increased access to information.

The LCRR requires water systems to prepare and maintain an inventory of service line materials. Initial inventories are required to be submitted to state agencies with primary enforcement responsibilities by October 16, 2024.

The Service Authority is currently conducting an inventory of service lines on both the Service Authority’s side of the water meter and the property owner’s side of the meter to confirm the material used in the construction of the water service line. To date, we have not found any lead in any service lines.

How you can help!

You can help the Service Authority meet the requirements of the LCRR by inspecting your home plumbing and reporting the pipe material that you have in your water service line coming into your home. Simply inspect the pipes coming into your home and then fill out the form below and submit the form to the Service Authority.
